Latham & Watkins had advised on some of the most significant deals in the market, including:

  • The Roy Hill iron ore project acquisition – Latham represented Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, an Australian mineral exploration and extraction company, in the acquisition by a consortium comprising POSCO, Marubeni Corporation and STX Corporation of a 30% equity interest in the Roy Hill iron ore project in Australia. Roy Hill is acknowledged as one of the highest quality fully integrated iron ore projects globally. This market-defining deal was the recipient of multiple awards in 2015, including “Overall Deal of the Year” by Asian Legal Business, “Asia Pacific Overall” by Infrastructure Journal, “Project Finance Deal of the Year” by Asian Legal Business and “Asia Pacific Mining & Metals” by Infrastructure Journal.
  • The Ichthys LNG project – Latham represented eight export credit agencies from Japan, Australia, Korea, France, Germany and The Netherlands, and a syndicate of 24 commercial lenders on the US$20 billion project financing in Australia, the largest project financing ever arranged in the international finance market. This ground-breaking deal was named “Global Deal of the Year” by Project Finance magazine.
  • The Australia Pacific LNG project – Latham represented sixteen lenders across 11 countries, in the US$8.5 billion phase-1 financing of the Australia Pacific LNG project, the largest-ever greenfield energy project in Australia. This landmark deal was named “Asia-Pacific Oil & Gas Deal of the Year” by Project Finance magazine.
  • The Jurlique International sale – Latham represented Jurlique International Pty Ltd, a producer of beauty and skin care products, in its acquisition by Pola Orbis Holdings, Inc.
